Soft-tissue care
Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)
Specialized tools to work through tight, restricted soft tissue.
At Simi Spine and Wellness, Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is offered as part of our comprehensive approach to soft-tissue care and recovery. Using smooth, specially shaped tools, IASTM helps the practitioner find and work through areas of tightness and restriction more precisely than by hand alone.
IASTM is commonly used alongside chiropractic adjustments, assisted stretching, and massage therapy to support mobility and recovery in soft tissue that is not moving the way it should. Whether it is right for you is determined after an evaluation.
What is IASTM?
Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization is a hands-on, targeted technique. The practitioner glides a smooth, shaped tool over the skin with a light lubricant, focusing on spots that feel restricted along the muscle and fascia.
The tool allows for a level of precision that can be difficult to achieve by hand, helping to locate and work through tight or restricted soft tissue in a controlled way.
What to expect during a session
IASTM is applied to specific areas that are part of your care plan, not the whole body at once. A session is brief and focused, and it is typically layered into a visit alongside other care rather than booked on its own.
You may notice mild, temporary redness in the area that was worked on. This is a normal response and usually settles quickly.
A complement to chiropractic care
IASTM is offered as one part of a broader, personalized plan, not a standalone fix. By helping restricted soft tissue move more freely, it can support the rest of your care. It is commonly paired with adjustments, stretch, and massage, and Dr. DeCloedt will explain how it fits your plan before it becomes part of a visit.
